Inspiring discovery of New Horizons through teaching
Honestly speaking, I have a lot of difficulties
in teaching some of my students. They are not motivated in studying at all. Only
some of them want to study and are doing their best. The rest of the students
do not have any desire to study. So, I try to create something suitable for
them to encourage them to learn new words and phrases, for example. It is
rather difficult to find something that will motivate them to do their
homework, for example.
Firstly, I began to use on-line
program ‘Quizlet’ to make tests for my students. This program motivates them to
learn new words and phrases better. It takes me some time to create some tests
but it is worth doing. They do my tests at the lessons using their smartphones.
Especially they like to do collaborative tests. In this case, they work
together in small groups of 3 or 4. They sit close to each other and solve the
tasks. Three or four groups compete to each other and every group wants to win.
They are happy when they manage to win. They repeat new words and phrases that
they came across in the texts and it helps them win.
Another discovery I have made
recently is that Skype can be used at our lessons successfully. Honestly
speaking, I haven’t got any experience in using Skype in teaching before. But I
took a very useful and interesting course about using Skype. As for me personally,
I am going to use Skype as individual work with my students at school while
preparing them for State Exam in the 11-th form, for example, while teaching
them how to write a personal letter or a personal opinion essay.
In conclusion, I can say that I am
constantly learning something new in using computer technologies at school and try to do all my best to teach
my students using such modern technologies as Skype and test builders.
